Magic have no plans to trade Redick

ORLANDO – J.J. Redick had played just three minutes in nine of the previous 10 games, but yet he was still among the first Orlando Magic players at Amway Arena on Wednesday to work out two hours before the game.

That hasn’t changed for Redick. And neither has his desire to be traded to a team where he could possibly play more.

Mired on the Magic’s bench again this season, Redick has had agent Arn Tellem approach Orlando general manager Otis Smith about dealing him to a team where he could potentially see more playing time.

Redick is buried behind Maurice Evans and Keith Bogans on the depth chart. Despite playing well in several stretches this season, he has played in just 20 games, and is getting just 8.3 minutes of playing time on average.

“For the average person or most in my situation their attitude would sour and their work would decrease, so that’s a battle that I have to fight every day,” Redick said. “I make sure I get extra work in, and continue to be a good teammate.

“I enjoy Orlando and love it here, but at a certain point you have to have your career in mind. I’m only promised one chance, one shot to play, and I want to make the most of it.”
