I’m looking for some inspiration. Any books you can recommend?

Answer:

Books I recommend- try reading Wild at Heart by John Eldredge, The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, or Cure for the Common Life by Max Lucado. They are all great reads. If you’re looking for something a bit shorter- read Oh, the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss. It’s phenomenal.

Question:

How did you feel when you heard about Brett Favre retiring?

Answer:

I was sad when Brett Favre announced his retirement. But at the same time, I think he did the right thing. He went out a winner and at the top of his game. He had one of his best seasons this year- guiding a team that many thought wouldn’t make the playoffs to the #2 seed in the NFC. Not only that, he shut his critics up that said he was “too old” or “washed up.” Brett will always be a champion and a warrior in my book. He’s the best there ever was.

Question:

What is the locker room dynamic like? Who picks the music, who is the leader, etc?

Answer:

Let’s be clear here- Dwight, and only Dwight, picks the music in the locker room and the weight room. We listen to a lot of Kanye, Lil’ Wayne (I love Kanye and Weezy), and, unfortunately, Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em. Sometimes, during the offseason mostly, we have “White Guy Wednesdays.” Pat Garrity, James Augustine, and I will lift to the background noise of 80s rock music. As far as clowns on the team- Dwight and Keyon Dooling are the two funniest guys on the team. We really don’t have many serious guys off the court. Everybody jokes around a lot. In terms of leadership, most of our older players all try and lead in some capacity. I think Jameer Nelson has a natural inclination to lead.

As promised- I posted some pics from our charity gala back at the end of March. The event is called the “Black Tie and Tennies Charity Gala” and its always a lot of fun. All the proceeds benefit the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation- a program that assists kids in the Central Florida area. I decided this year to not wear a tux- instead I went with a black custom suit and skinny black tie. I would have rather worn a tux but believe it or not- I don’t own a tux and rentals just don’t fit exact. I put some all white Vans on my feet and I was ready to go. Some highlights…

Playoff Update

Hey y’all- sorry for the time between blogs. Things have been busy with travel, practices, and games so I haven’t had a good chance to sit down and write. Things are pretty good here. We obviously advanced past Toronto by winning the series 4-1. I wasn’t that surprised. All season we proved to be better than them and the playoffs were no different. Dwight had a tremendous series and dominated the paint just like he has all season. On a side note, I’d like to congratulate him on being named First Team All-NBA. Hey y’all how are you guys doing? We are up 2-0 on Toronto and I’m pretty excited. For those of you that didn’t see, I got to play a good amount in the last two games of the regular season. I had 11 points in the last 12 minutes of our game vs Atlanta and I had 18 points in 24 minutes vs Washington in the last game of the regular season. April 14 Blog

I’m sitting in a hotel room in Atlanta, just ate some room service, and now am watching Sportscenter. We have practice in a little bit but just wanted to drop you guys a line. The Magic got our 50th win of the season last night, which is quite an accomplishment. I feel blessed to be on such a good team. We are locked into the third seed in the Eastern Conference and are just trying to finish the remaining two games in a strong fashion.
