Updates

Hey I just wanted to give you guys an update on what I’ve been up to for the past 18 days. I finished up 6 weeks of workouts in North Carolina on July 10th. It was a great six weeks. In fact, it couldn’t have gone better. Everyone at Duke made their best effort to aid me in becoming a better basketball player- and I sincerely thank all of them. Over at dukeblueplanet.smugmug.com there’s some pictures taken from one of my last workouts with Chris Carrawell- who worked me out everyday for 6 weeks and did a fantastic job. I drove back to Orlando (not the shortest drive in the world) and made it…

Q and A with JJ

Q: Balancing academics and athletics is a struggle for many kids at the high school level. You were able to do it at even a higher level by playing at such a high profile and great academic school at Duke. What tips do you have for kids out there struggling to get a good balance of both?

A: When you are focused on a sport it definitely can be a challenge to maintain good academic standing but I believe anyone can do it with
the right attitude and work ethic. When I was in high school my rule was this: I couldn’t go work on basketball until I was done with my
homework. In college, I…

Q and A with JJ

Q: Did you ever play any other sports like baseball or football growing up? If yes, would you say that you were pretty good at them?

A: The only sport I played growing up was baseball. To be honest,
baseball was my first love. I was a pretty darn good pitcher. In
four years of Little League, I only lost once as a pitcher and oddly
enough I had 17 strikeouts that game (there’s only 18 total outs in
Little League). But alas, I didn’t have time in the summer to play
both AAU basketball and baseball so I quit baseball in the 7th grade.
In my opinion, I was better at baseball than I…

July 3

I won’t be around a computer tomorrow but I wanted to wish everyone a very happy 4th of July! Despite all the troubles our country faces, (rising gas prices, slumping housing sector, bear market, etc.) one can’t help but appreciate how great this country is and how lucky we are to be a part of this nation. So to all, happy Independence Day!

Just to give you guys a quick update on my activities- workouts are still going very well. My body has “turned the corner” and the initial soreness I experienced the first few weeks has waned and I’ve been able to make some marked improvement in my strength and conditioning. In spite of the personal…

Q and A with JJ

Q: What’s the best advice you have ever received?

A: The best advice I ever received? Wow, now that’s a tough
question. I’ve received a lot of great advice from several
outstanding people. I would have to say the best advice I’ve gotten
is from my parents. When I was a kid they told me to dream big and to
always chase my dreams. I’ve tried to do that my whole life and will
continue to do that. I owe a lot to mom and pops.

Q: Hows it goin man , i just got a question who does your suits man they are very nice ….....

A: I am fashion-obsessed and suits are probably my…
